To all Members of the Maryland School Bus Contractors Association:
As you are no doubt aware, a tragic crash involving a contractor-owned school bus and a MTA bus occurred in Baltimore on November 1, 2017. The crash was initiated when the school bus driver, an epileptic, lost control of the school bus after suffering a seizure.
Maryland Healthy Working Families Act- Enforcement and Implementation Guidance
On February 11,2018, the Maryland Healthy Working Families Act is scheduled to go into effect. The Department of Labor has made a draft sample employee notice poster for your place of business available on our website at www.dllr.maryland.gov/paidleave. The department is also developing sample policies that will be available on the department's website in the near future.
On January 12, 2018, the Maryland Genreal Assembly overrode Govenor Hogan's veto of 2017's mandatory paid sick leave law, House Bill 1. Therefore, Marlyand employers are now required to provide paid leave to employees. As of now, per state legislative guidelines, this law will take effect on February 11, 2018, though the Maryland Chamber plans to request an extension.
The Holiday Season gives each of us an opportunity to step back from the demands of our busy schedules to appreciate family and friends. I would like to take a moment to thank all the contractor members who work hard to keep this associationmoving forward. I know that many make sacrifices large & small for MSBCA and I am grateful.
